15-Year Old Performs Surgery; Father Wanted to See His Son in Guinness Book

In an attempt to become the world’s youngest surgeon, a 15-year old boy in India performed a cesarean section at a maternity hospital owned and run by his father, Dr. K. Murugesan. (Story from Associated Press; all quotes, except one speculative quote, are 100% ver batim)

Dr. Murugesan, who filmed the procedure, says it was not his son’s first time; he had been training him for three years. Therefore, according to mathematics, the boy had been training for surgery since age twelve, a time at which most boys are supposed to be searching their dad’s closet for dirty magazines.

After the surgery, the doctor showed the video of his son performing the operation to an Indian Medical Association chapter last month, said Dr. Venkatesh Prasad, the association’s secretary. “We were shocked to see the recording,” he told the Associated Press. He also claims the IMA told Murugesan that his act was an ethical and legal violation, not to mention the dumbest thing they had ever heard of.

Although most Indian parents are overbearing and highly demanding, Murugesan explained to the medical association his logical rationale for depriving his son of a normal childhood: he wanted to see his son’s name in the Guinness Book of World Records, under the category of “Most Unnecessary Endangerment of Two Lives.” Instead, Murugesan is facing criminal charges, and at the very least, the permanent revocation of his medical license, which could really hurt considering all of the patients who are probably just dying to let him be their doctor.

Murugesan, apparently not expecting to receive any backlash for allowing someone not old enough to drive a car to deliver a baby through a woman’s torso, made it clear that he has no regrets for letting his son do the operation, and even went so far as to accuse the Manaparai medical association of being “jealous” of his sons achievements, Prasad told reporters.

Prassad’s team has reported the surgery to the top medical association in the state’s capital, where state health secretary V.K. Subburaj assured the public that the government would investigate. At first glance, Subburaj believes there is a major violation, and “we will definitely take action against the concerned medical officers.”

The Associated Press article did not state whether the woman who underwent the c-section had agreed to put her and her child’s life in the hands of a 15-year-old, but experts speculate that had she been given the choice, her answer may have sounded something like, “are you out of your F------ mind!! Get the f--- away from me! Honey, get the car, we’re going somewhere else, now!!”

According to the video, however, Murugesan did, in fact, ask the woman if she had any objections, just after injecting the anesthesia. Murugesan’s attorney claims that as long as he asked before fully depressing the syringe, a lack of response can be interpreted as the patient not having any objections.

Quickly after the surgery, the 15-year-old was contacted by ABC to potentially replace Dr. Preston Burke, the world-renowned cardiothoracic surgeon on the hit TV show Grey's Anatomy who got fired for calling a homosexual cast-member a “flaming homosexual.” However, the boy must first pass a physical to determine whether he is physically able to have sex with the other doctors on the show.

I couldn't believe it when I read this in the press...and yes, I prefer your version, replete with the swearing response of the mother!!

And what of the lawyer's comment; "if the syringe plunger isn't fully depressed' her silence can mean consent!!!....who are they kidding??

I've been put under, and as soon as they start pushing that shit in you go blah blah...and methinks...damn..she would have heard this MANIAC say just before she went unconscious, "Oh madam, would you mind so much if my young son performs today, it is his first time, but I am sure he will do ok"!!! and NOT being able to respond, in the manner you suggest, which is exactly what I'd expect her to say too!

And all to get him in the Guiness Book of Records??? It is terrifying and depressing all at the same time.

cheers
