A question for debate

" We're all the same species. If people were dogs, they'd all be the same breed. There is a much larger difference between a dachshund and a beagle than there is between George Bush and a Zulu warrior."

P.J. O'Rourke (paraphrased)

What say you? Are we all the same breed? Recent genetic studies have scientists speculating that humans may in fact be of different species.

It is of great disrespect that a man, any man, be compared to George Bush and deemed similar.

even zulu warriors have their dignity!

But people are not dogs.
Yes we are all the same species called Homo Sapien.

We are also the breed called human.

We come from many races but even race is an artificial definition.

We all look different
Viva La difference!

A.Arm,

Definitely different core species.

I have read much 'evidence' to support this, although much of it is still considered in the realms of theory by the orthodox (right) mainstream.

Interesting question

Trust you Ahmed, my little shit-stirring friend, to inject levity. But now, what is your opinion? I'd think you'd be all over this one...

Damo, yes of course people are not dogs. It's an illustrative parallel.

All dogs are descended from one entity, though: the wolf. Yet look at the thousands of different breeds that have evolved since. Does it not seem reasonable, then, that hominids would also evolve into many different species as well?

Lilla, yes--I've read a lot about this too. Seems that recent RNA findings in bone samples as well as supporting paleontological evidence lend credence to the theory that Homo Sapiens coexisted with as well as interbred with Neanderthal and Homo Erectus..which would in fact create different species of hominids.

Interesting times, these!

Thanks all, for your comments!

We may be different but certainly not enough to be deemed as different 'species'. Theres a huge difference between a poodle and a golden retriever but there sure as hell isn't that big a difference between an asian and a scandanavian.

Interesting...what always puzzles me, is the Darwinian theory: differences are caused by climate and diet. Ok, I can see a lot of that has huge impact on how anything grows. But then, if you draw a line around the Earth, you find, at the same level of sunlight, for instance, completely different looking people. I don't understand it at all, and what of the missing link business...what was that about...can't remember exactly, some people say Darwin has not proven his theory of evolution for mankind?

Anyhoo...my personal theory is we are all aliens...just HIGHLY underdeveloped....hehe!!

cheers
