Average Americans-time to change the image!

***The bill has passed, but it's not too late to let Congress know exactly what "Joe Sixpack" (gag) is saying..

Alright, Americans--speak your piece while the window's open 'cause it won't last long.
It's time we changed how we are depicted to anyone who watches T.V., including our own government members.

You don't have to, of course. You can let market analists--ooops, I meant analysts--and the media speak for you. Remember every idiot you've seen on Jerry Springer or "The Peoples' Court"? That's presumed to be your voice. Every dirtbag you've ever seen on news clips or "Judge Judy"? That is presumed to be your voice. Why?

Have you noticed how much more media coverage the average American moron gets than the average American with brains and common sense? Have you ever wondered why? Maybe it's because average Americans with brains and common sense don't have the "entertainment value" that the average American moron does in the media.

Maybe it's because we real average Americans--the ones with common sense and brains--are content to bitch about the government over the dinner table and laugh at all of the average American morons we see every day on T.V. But while we're snickering at them and feeling superior, we fail to realize that they are representing us.

Click here, find your state in the drop-down menu of the site and write your Congressman or woman now.

This is your last chance for a long time to change the government's perception of us.

Time to even up the score. Get your voice heard on this travesty of an economic proposal that not only Bush, but an ever-increasing number of Democrat and Republican representatives are trying to bum's rush us into accepting.

Add./author's update: The bill for the bailout was just passed. Now the house is patting themselves on the back and mouthing generalities about "Main Street." One speaker said this: "Warren Buffett has said that this will benefit the taxpayer, meaning all of us."

Let that sink in for a moment.

Now it is more important than ever to write, call or use the link I provided here to let your congress people and reps know: We, the People...Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents, Conservatives and Liberals and all other taxpayers....are not Idiots.

Is this you?
The average American, according to market analysts

Here is my letter to my Congresswoman, verbatim:

"As a constituent, I'm writing to tell you something that the political market research firms apparently aren't: there are what the media would call "staggering" numbers of voters out here whose trust in the government (never much to begin with) is hanging in the balance with this economic bailout proposal.

The eyes of the nation's voters are on Congress right now. You are under a microscope. If this preposterous plan gets pushed through, any last shred of party loyalty-pretty much all you've got left now- is going to blow away in the hurricane-force winds of hot air and manure fumes that both the Democratic and Republican parties have been blasting us with this past week.

Don't make the mistake of relying on laziness or complacency on the part of the voters. We've been guilty of that before, it's true, but rest assured that right now everyone is paying very close attention to the details of this proposal, and we know a royal scam when we hear it.

Don't let this joke of a proposal go through. We're all watching and listening to see who really has our best interests in mind.

A registered voter and writer in your state,

Mrs. D. L. Armenta"

Your text goes hereGo get em D. I agree, although can't admit to watching more than the evening new's worth and several daily papers about the plan. It seems a bit like putting an expensive band-aid over a gaping knife-wound...or is it the other way around? Full body cast over a paper cut? The numbers are mind-boggling and I can't help but be p.o.-ed, having a career in the airline industry which has been bleeding for too many years now. Where's Our bailout? Give us some of that pork to fry up, why doncha?

Way to go Dane! Last nights debate really proved your point with Ms. Palin and all her "Gee, Gollies" and talking to the people/
I'm with you.
Unfortunately, I read this after the passage of the proposal.

There's this thing, the bell curve, and unfortunately 50% are on one side of it and 50% on the other. Those to the weak side hear this from their leaders: Trying economic times? Go shopping! You make $40,000 a year but just got approved for a $700,000 mortgage with no income check? You're living the American Dream! Sadly, the victims are those poor souls who believed in the pronouncements of the current administration, and were suckered into running up their credit cards and buying houses they couldn't afford because it was the "patriotic thing to do." Lemmings.

And that wily little moose-dressing hockey mom from the North Country is their beloved spokesmodel.

"Wall Street" surely encouraged all of those pursuits among "average" Americans, and got caught holding the bag when the objects of their greed fell short when the payments started to come due. Make no mistake - this bailout saves the financial institutions. But where is the part about freezing interest rates or resetting principal amounts for Joe Six Pack who lives on Main Street who happens to be in foreclosure? Who's buying their depressed assets and helping to get them off the hook?

Perhaps it's our own patriotic duty - those of us leaning to the strong side of that bell curve - to inform, much the way you have with your posting, to get the word out that, well, the emperor has no clothes.

great call to action, D. Bring back intelligence and rational thought to the circus ring of politics!

That MAD pic looks like it'd be George W. Bush as a kid. And if the average American is GWB as a kid...holy wow, no wonder the nation is so effed up...

Actually, I do think the average American is a moron, or at least the average one 30 yrs old and younger is. Seems like Orble is an Aussie site or something, so I'll just say I am American but this is how I feel anyway. And a lot of that relates to who we've been allowing to get into powerful positions. They make idiotic decisions that have resulted in intelligence and receiving a good education not being important, necessary or almost even possible anymore. But exploring that issue honestly could be an entire post by itself.

We have all heard pundits and the like refer to "the dumbing down of America", it has been happening here too, in Oz, through slack public education and highly edited (politicised?) teaching of history.

One also sees serious and well coordinated manipulation of the publics' fears and desires, collusion by government and the media in the obfuscation of truth and all this suggesting a hidden longer term political agenda one can only guess at, but rest assured, it is not for the benefit of the common person.

We live in very dangerous times; for without a vigilant and independant press, we have no one to help us expose and stand up to government lies.

Our countries now have a press that seem to be working in concert with the shadier powers skulking furtively behind the face of elected government. These days we are much less likely to discover the truth, particularly regarding our future, and certainly regarding serious events of the past, like Iraq, 911 etc.

We may say we live in democracies, but, before our very eyes, our governments are turning totalitarian by stealth.

Just hope you win lotto, you might be able to insulate yourself from the coming mayhem, to some degree.

cheers

I agree wholeheartedly! And I blame the media for a large part of it. Does anyone still think the public is getting fair, balanced and complete reporting of the issues that affect our lives?? Consumer advocates such as Ralph Nader no longer have a voice on major networks unless they are dating Paris Hilton! We're all sick of the Fluff news, and the biased views. Where is Edward R Murrow or Walter Cronkite when you need them? "Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the [U.S.] media." ~ Noam Chomsky. During the Vietnam conflict, the public saw the horrors of war and turned against it. Where is the coverage of Iraq? A democracy can only operate if there is a free flow of ideas -- ALL ideas from every corner of society. Then intelligent people can make informed decisions.

I wrote my Congressmen twice last week. Eleven of thirteen Georgia Representatives voted against the bailout plan when it came back to the House. My Representative specifically credits the way he voted to the communications he received from his constituents. I suspect we probably do not contact our Congress persons as often as we should. I also suspect most of us make the effort only when we are opposed to a bill or an action and usually by then it is too late ... it's a done deal already.

I would propose that we write our Congress persons at least weekly and let them know how we feel about what is happening in our lives today (I don't mean the Jerry Springer stuff). Keep them informed and challenge them to do the next right thing (or at least try).

Time for term limits in Congress ... 12 years ... any longer and these guys just get so close to the problem they become part of the problem. We also seem to have the bad habit of sending our Congress Persons back to Washington, even when they do a poor job. Fire them, vote for the other guy regardless of party lines.

I never have figured out why Supreme Court Justices are appointed for life either ... two hundred years ago maybe I can see the need, but now, seems to me that an 8 - 12 year term limit there would be in line here as well.

I hope all y'all enjoy your day. Right now our weather is sunny and in the low 70's in north Georgia, USA.

Thank you every one for posting your comments.

I'm hoping against hope that the "average American"--no, I mean the "average HUMAN"--is galvanized to call, write or email the people in government who are supposed to be acting in their best interests.

I'm on a mission...more to come.
