New Stem Cell Technique Could Bypass Life-Threatening Restrictions
Scientists believe they have found a way to essentially reprogram skin cells in mice to act as embryonic stem cells.
As most people should already know, stem cells are basically blank cells that, like teenagers, become whatever type of cell they are surrounded by. Stem cells could thus be used to treat countless numbers of conditions. They could become insulin-secreting cells for diabetics, re-grow degenerated pathways in people suffering from Parkinson’s, develop into a conscious for Michael Vick; the possibilities are endless.
However, because stem cells are derived from embryonic tissue, religious zealots condemn the practice that could save millions of people. “Science has no right to use embryos to save lives or heal the paralyzed or whatever they think they can do that would change God’s plan,” said Dick Doerflinger (his actual name), deputy director of pro-life activities for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, all of whom apparently have MD/PhDs and are the foremost authorities on scientific research, “an embryo that has already been aborted and is going to be disposed of into a medical waste bin and then autoclaved [sterilized] at 250ºF is still a living and breathing human being who deserves to be treated with respect; you can’t just take its cells without asking and then run around healing people.”
Because of religious fanatics, scientists have been forced to shift their focus from using stem cells to treating countless numbers of diseases to instead getting normal cells to act like stem cells.
The current ongoing research is being built off of a landmark paper published by Shinya Kamikaze Yoshi Daniel-Sahn Yamanakakamana from Kyoto University in Japan. By adding four genes into mouse fibroblasts (a type of skin cell), he was able to make altered cells behave similar to embryonic stem cells in lab tests.
But Yamanaharmonica’s cells showed significant differences from authentic stem cells, which is what the latest research is geared towards alleviating. Moreover, the technique used in the mouse studies could promote cancer, thus researchers emphasize that a new approach needs to be developed to minimize risk. Others propose that people who want to not suffer Alzheimer’s, paralysis, muscle degeneration, nerve degeneration, death, etc. be allowed to use treatments derived from research using stem cells, reserving their cancerous counterparts for those supporting the League to Save Medical Waste from Saving Lives and the president who promised he wouldn’t ignore them.
“Sure, we could have been using stem cells for years and know how to treat hundreds of thousands of people who right now have zero hope,” said one of the project leaders, “but it’s important we save the precious embryos from having their cells taken away from them before we throw them away into the medical waste bin. That bin gets really full and I hate having to empty it.”
“It’s not that bad,” said another project leader, “so it’ll take thirty years instead of three, patients can wait, that’s why they call them ‘patients.’ Hehe, get it? Patients like ‘patience is a virtue?’ I totally did that on purpose, you should print that.”
While studies show that 99.8% of Americans have no issues with abortions, 87% believe that taking cells from innocent embryos that have been sucked out of a uterus with a vacuum is wrong.
“I was an aborted embryo,” said a member of that pro-life catholic bishop or whatever group from before, “I was just a hollow ball of 32 cells that had only been in my mother’s womb for three days, but someone decided to give me a chance and here I am, with like, over a hundred cells to my name. Would I have wanted to give up my life to save others? Of course, but what right do we have to make decisions for the embryos that are aborted every day?”
The stem cell supporters then struck back with their own living miracle, Kenneth Sanders, “I used to be one of those church freaks who liked to ignore everything except my own retarded opinion, but then I got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and now I see the error of my ways. I can only pray that all those poor, misinformed people in the trailer parks get afflicted with their own debilitating disease so that they, too, can see how retarded they’ve been. I mean, I still want those embryos to be treated with the human dignity that they deserve, but don’t you think that given the choice, those embryos would rather pass on knowing they helped someone than go directly to the trash can? I know I would.”
Stem cell research, which years ago entered the scientific community with much fanfare, has since taken a backseat to research that doesn’t offend uneducated opinionated religious extremists, such as determining the role of caspase-8 in the apoptotic pathway, the number one concern of males ages 16 to 88, as well as the number one concern of females ages 16 to 88: medication to help achieve a stronger, more lasting erection.

For the Sake of Argument
My Apologetics
Firstly you argue that everyone who disagree with your opinion must be a religious fanatic.
Then you condemn the qualifications of one group of people without establishing your own credentials as anything better.
Thirdly you use a prior history in a religion and your rejection of it as a qualification in itself.
The first point is logically wrong because the only qualification you have for determining who is a fanatic is yourself. Judge, jury and witness for the prosecution. Could also be seen as fanatical.
The second error is your lack of providing evidence that you are better qualified to speak than your opponent on the same subject. This breaks down to it is wrong because you say so. Pure subjective reasoning. Some might call it prejudice. The person is deemed to be wrong due to membership of a religion.
The third point is not a qualification at all but is actually what is as known as 'Special Pleading.' An irrelevant qualification to give false status to yourself but offers no evidence for your claims.
Obviously you have a position but I wonder how objectively you arrived at it.
I don't have Alzheimer's or diabetes, I couldn't care less if perfectly good stem cells that could treat crippling diseases are being thrown in the trash for absolutely no reason.
For the Sake of Argument
My Apologetics
You measurement of Objectivity is being made by You and that by definition is entirely Subjective.
Your logic is floored even before anyone starts to examine your claims.

This isn't really an issue of religion, though, but rather the groups who are trying to block stem-cell research; the majority happen to be religious.
If the stem cells are going to be disposed of, then yes! They should be used to help those in need.
I think the main concern here is the bottom-feeder elements in the human race who would undoubtedly find loopholes in any legislation passed, thus opening the door to all kinds of horrors (selling fetuses, getting pregnant just to sell fetuses, etc.)
We all know there are such people out there.
