It sounds like Dick Dale's Misirlou from the 'Pumpkin and Honey Bunny' opening to Pulp Fiction.
2. June 16th 2007 @ 21:49. James Rickard Says:
My vote goes for Pulp Fiction too!

Close, but no cigar, Dave.

The movie is Pulp Fiction, yes, but the track is Surf Rider by The Lively Ones.

Nice kit, D.

Was this played in Pulp Fiction?
6. June 17th 2007 @ 02:32. Ahmed Says:
No idea, I'd vote pulp fiction too only becuase I've heard its main theme once and this sounds a little similar

Right movie, everyone!

David--so close! We actually do "Miserlou" and Link Wray's "Rumble" as well.

Yoda--Yep, it's "Surfrider(Spudnik) by the Ventures (the movie version may be a cover by The Lively Ones)

Thanks JD! We do "Wipeout" under duress, LOL--our band covers surf and rockabilly tunes as well as originals in the same genre.

James, Damo, Ahmed, thanks for visiting!

I must say I don't know my surf tunes that well, but the Pulp Fiction soundtrack is definitely the Lively Ones...

So does your guitarist have a special upside down strung guitar that he plays just for Misirlou, Dick Dale style?

9. June 17th 2007 @ 05:28. D. Armenta Says:
LOL, no..but he can play the hell out of it--started out as a banjo player when he was a kid.

Dick Dale--now THERE'S a character!
10. June 17th 2007 @ 05:57. yoda76 Says:
Banjo players spin me out. I play guitar, too, and there's just no way I could even fathom how they do that...!
11. June 17th 2007 @ 05:58. D. Armenta Says:
P.S. Yoda--You've got a good eye for drums; that's a vintage (1942) Slingerland Radio King kit and I am absolutely in love with it!
12. June 17th 2007 @ 06:54. DuskDevi Says:
...and I thought Cindy Blackman was cool...

Totally hot D Ar....!

Drummers rock!

...and I know you do 'Hawaii 5-0'!!!!

(All I can drum now is a few bars of 'Take 5')

I do what I can...

I miss my drums... I haven't had a kit in about 6 years now... *sniff*

Dusk--If you can drum Brubeck's "Take Five" (LOVE Brubeck--and Joe Morello is one of my favorite drummers!)
you're well on your way! That time signature isn't easy for a lot of people..we do the Chet Atkins version of "Take Five, heehee. Keep playing, Dusk--it's a real love thing with drums, isn't it?

Poor Yoda-to be without drums is to be a bereft soul. If you two ever vacation here in the Florida Keys, IM me and I'll let you sit in on mine. You too, Dusk!

Thanks for stopping by, Mis! Loved your last posts.

I won't wear the band out on you but I'll post one of us now and then.
16. June 18th 2007 @ 00:07. Bryn Says:
I guessed it right too ... I didn't cheat by checking other comments!
A nice rendition ...
Key Largo huh?
What kind of concert was that?
How often do you hit the traps?
I taught myself drums at high school, and then played them with a band for a few years until the kit starting falling apart ...
I've always loved the drums, from rockandroll through to drum machines in electronic dance music.
Who's your fave drummer?
Mine are:
1. Stewart Copeland (The Police)
2. Mark Brzezicki (Big Country, but played with The Cult on their awesome Love album)
3. Tony Thompson (Chic)
4. Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience)
5. Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil)

DArmenta,

had no idea you played the drums lolol See what you can learn about somebody on here?

I play piano, guitar and violin...not much call for Wipeout on the violin I'm afraid...

LOL

Great video...

Take care,

Nick
18. June 18th 2007 @ 00:21. Cibbuano Says:
great video!

I knew it was from Pulp Fiction, and not the opening theme, but I got here way too late. Fun game, though...
19. June 18th 2007 @ 02:28. D. Armenta Says:
Hi Bryn--That was filmed at a gig at the Mandalay Tiki bar on the ocean..heavy rain with winds up to 40mph so we had to move inside.

I play a minimum of three times/week; I do it for a living. That's why I'm not around here much weekends. Concur with all your drummer choices, haha--what a surprise.

Also the awesome Gene Krupa, Al Jackson, Jr. (he was the house drummer for Stax/Volt records) Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck's drummer) Cam Robb (Little Mike and the Tornadoes) and the drummer for Los Straitjackets!

Hi Nick--I dunno, maybe you can improv a violin solo for Miserlou, LOL..

Hi Cibby! Actually, it was the closing theme. Thanks for stopping by, everyone!
20. June 18th 2007 @ 04:56. Lilla Says:
D.Arm...

I have no idea where this tune is from, but it's famili..er... and is that you on the drums?

Wow : you're great!

Playing drums is No: 6 on my list of things still left to do in this lifetime... *chuckle* I'd better get a move on.

Loved it!

Lilla ...
21. June 18th 2007 @ 05:04. D. Armenta Says:
Hi Lilla--thanks! Yep, that's me.

Go for it..I didn't start playing till I turned 40 !

22. June 18th 2007 @ 06:16. KylieW Says:
I cheated and checked the comments!

Nice playing D. I love the drum. Would love to have learned to play. I tried learning the guitar a few years ago (never too old to be a rock star)..but I sucked.....a lot.

You on the other hand......are good!
23. June 18th 2007 @ 12:23. Deorre Says:
I couldn't place it either. Love the surf sound, though. And you look and sound good pounding the skins.

Too cool!
24. June 18th 2007 @ 19:56. D. Armenta Says:
Hi Kylie--thank you! I think I look kinda goofy, myself, LOL. I clammed the first drum fill but posted this anyway; the guys sounded good.

Hi Deorre! Thanks for visiting..see you on Myspace music!
25. June 19th 2007 @ 12:00. Mountain Fog Says:
awww...I can't 'ear it' coz my pooter is audio stuffed....and dunno why. Anyhoo, I love the idea of that alien fight in the cathedral...it did pique my interest to note the grand poobah (bishop or other) there said his punters (the faithful) will think the place was packed with aliens packing gunzz...and then said, when they rarely pack them....was this his humour or does he know something we don't?

Is it too late to guess which movie this is from? I can assure everyone there's no way in hell I read the other comments. Okay, so this song is from: Braveheart (if you don't remember it's because it's a long movie, go back and watch it again)
27. July 3rd 2007 @ 01:48. D. Armenta Says:
Oho, Plagman--you are sucha ballbreaker..don't I still owe you an asskicking from that "x" chromosome comment???
28. July 7th 2007 @ 16:04. youranter Says:
I honestly had no idea as I haven't seen Pulp Fiction yet. Great sound though. Like they used to say on American Bandstand: It has a good beat and is easy to dance to. I'd rate it an 8. Lol. I always liked 'Telstar' and Booker T & The MG's are favourites. Great video.
